Land and livelihood

Farming carries risks that ordinary policies were not written for: a failed rainy season, a herd lost to disease, a barn of equipment. We help farmers and agribusinesses find cover that fits.

Agriculture & special risks

Who it is forCrop and livestock farmers, greenhouse and dairy operators, agribusinesses and cooperatives, and anyone whose risk does not fit a standard policy

Covers crops, livestock, greenhouses, farm buildings and equipment. Some insurers offer index-based products that pay out from weather or satellite data instead of a loss assessment in the field. Special risks are the ones that fall outside standard products, such as unusual assets or one-off ventures. If you are unsure whether something can be insured, ask us.

Questions we will ask

  • What do you grow or keep, how much of it, and where?
  • Is the land irrigated, and how has the weather affected you in past seasons?
  • What would a bad season cost you, and what could you carry yourself?

Have ready: Farm location and size, crop or herd details, equipment list, records of past losses.

What a policy pays depends on its schedule, limits and exclusions, and these differ between insurers. We read them with you before you buy. Nothing on this page is an offer of cover.
